For months you’d been looking through Pinterest, your favourite homeware magazines and blogs deciding on your kitchen makeover. Shaker style or classic... After all that hard work, your dream kitchen is complete! But within a day, it’s already looking cluttered, with dirty dishes and crumbs on the side… We understand that your kitchen was a large investment, and you want it to be looking at its best everyday, which is why we’ve put together our top tips to keep your kitchen clean and tidy.
Like with anything, once you get into a routine, tasks become much easier and natural, rather than appearing as a chore. Just think, at the weekend getting up at 6:30 am is one of the biggest tasks in the world, but during the week (whilst you still don’t enjoy it), you don’t question it because it is part of your routine. Get into the habit of cleaning up after every time you cook, and washing your dishes in the evening rather than letting them pile up. If you do this every evening, it’ll become routine and you won’t even have to think about it. Doing this also means you have less of a big task when it comes to the end of the week and your kitchen is full of dirty dishes and pans!
Whilst you might think you need every kitchen appliance you own out on the side, this simply isn’t the case and can leave your kitchen looking messy. Take all the appliances and gadgets you have out, and question how often you use them. Keep the essentials out, like your toaster and kettle, but put your slow cooker away and take it out only when you need it. This is a simple way to keep your kitchen worktops looking less cluttered, and also gives you much more kitchen worktop space to work with.
Not only that, but it means that you have less to clean! There’s nothing worse than having to clean each appliance and move it when you have to get behind it to give your worktops a wipe. Keep out the essential appliances you use regularly, and put that blender that gets an occasional use in a cupboard.
To get you on the right tracks to reducing clutter around your kitchen, you might want to have a think about storage solutions. This could be as simple as putting your pasta in glass jars, investing in a spice rack or having your utensils on a hanging rail on the wall. Doing this helps to keep clutter off the work surface, and keeps everything together. Not only this, but it allows for easier tidying up - a place for everything and everything in its place.
This doesn’t just have to apply on your worktops, but also within your cupboards. Keep baking supplies in a handy basket, or grains and cereals in separate tubs. Doing this helps you keep your kitchen looking and feeling cleaner, tidier and overall much more organised.
When you’re waiting for that pasta to boil or something to bake in the oven what are you doing? Mindlessly going through your phone, or flipping through a magazine? Why not use your waiting time to tidy up your mess, rather than doing it all at the end. Tidying as you go makes the job much easier, and seem much more manageable. Not only this, but any spills have less time to set - making them so much easier to clean up!
We hope you’ve found some of these top tips useful, and will use them when trying to keep your own kitchen looking clean and tidy. Whilst you’re at it, why not take a look at our top tips on cleaning your kitchen? Whether it's for your stubborn microwave or kitchen cupboards - we have the solution!
