We’ve given you plenty of handy hints and ideas in the past around giving your kitchen a makeover. However, many of those ideas could incur large expense; such as new flooring or kitchen worktops, and we understand that if you’re on a limited budget this might not be so achievable. However, even on a small budget, you can transform your kitchen by giving your cabinets a makeover! Whether it’s subtle changes, or something more dramatic, you’re sure to find some ideas you can use below.
You have endless opportunities and choice when it comes to changing the colour of your kitchen cabinets. Depending on your style and what overall look you want to achieve from the makeover, the colour you choose and placement of this colour will differ. If you want something more subtle, you could choose a grey or offwhite hue that gives the cabinets a clean re-fresh and brings more light into the space. Alternatively, you might add a dramatic accent, perhaps one charcoal cabinet to stand out from the rest. If you’re feeling really bold, why not go for a royal blue or zingy orange to create a statement. The colours you choose really depend on your personality, and what works best in the space that you have available.
Just because you’re having a kitchen makeover, it doesn’t mean that you have to go all modern with what you choose. Opting for distressed off-white cabinets helps to create a casual, ‘lived-in’ and overall more vintage vibe - and is a style really popular in decor at the moment. You could even add to the rustic vibe further by replacing your cabinet door with wire instead of wood or glass. This way, you can make a statement in your kitchen in a whole other way!
Wire isn’t your only option when it comes to replacing the panels on your cabinet doors. You could opt for glass, metals, vinyl coatings or remove the door all together! Doing so can completely change the look of your kitchen, and is a really handy trick for getting rid of cabinets with chips, stains or scratches.
Changing what you see doesn't stop here! For glass or exposed cabinets, change what you display behind. Why not display some of your favourite dishes or appliances you don’t usually get to show off? What you choose to display is really up to you, but make sure it compliments the overall style of your kitchen. For example, if you’re going for the vintage vibes like suggested above you might not want to show your high tech, stainless steel blender.
Adding wallpaper to the insides of cabinets (we’re mainly referring to exposed ones here), is a fantastic way to add texture and colour to the room. Because it’s not the whole room, you can afford to go for a bold pattern or hue without it looking ‘too much’. Why not get some new decorations to compliment this wallpaper further? Not only is this a simple hack, but it’s also really affordable too!
Handles and other hardware really are the perfect finishing touch in any kitchen, and upgrading these can really help pull everything together. There are a vast array of handles you can choose, in an equally large range of materials - you’re sure to find something that perfectly complements your kitchen style.
We hope you find some of these hints and tips helpful, and good look on your kitchen makeover! If you would like to find out more about the kitchen makeover service we offer, you can do here - we’d love to help.
